Summer Coaching and Youth Activities 2009
During the school holidays four structured coaching weeks are organise. These involve 24 young people attending for 5 mornings where a number of coaches and stewards are on duty to instruct and encourage the participants to develop their skills and confidence and take their sport onto a new level.
The improvement in many of the young people is very noticeable with confidence soaring especially amongst the novices. The more accomplished participants find the attention that they are given by our experienced coaches enables them to perfect new moves which they had been finding difficult prior to attending the coaching week.
After lunch there is a youth programme running with the youth workers at the Skatepark offering a variety of activities like graffiti art, T-shirt design and a variety of sport related activities. Most participants stay on for the afternoon sessions.
The programme had two main aims:
The first aim is to provide diversionary activities for young people during the school holidays, allowing them the opportunity to take part in quality structured sport coaching as well as youth activities that they may not have had the opportunity to otherwise try.
The second aim of the holiday programme is to allow young people the opportunity to gain new skills through the coaching while also improving their interpersonal skills, self esteem, and increasing confidence. This is achieved through a combination of the coaching and youth activities.
